Caerdydd

PETER (Character)
PETER (Character)

On the surface Peter is the epitome of the 21st century male – young, free and single. He is driven by his career (he has run Marshall Construction since his parents died in a tragic road accident when he was 25 and has won the prize for Young Business Person of the Year) and his libido. The latter has got him into trouble a few times, not least after his fling with obsessive Siân led to a tragic end when she used his little brother Siôn as a pawn against him. Heartbroken Siôn breaks his parole and ends up back in prison. Beneath Peter's macho façade, though, is a caring father-figure. He visited Siôn regularly while he was in prison the first time round, and is deeply protective of his little sister Kate, to the point of disposing of her husband Danny’s body when he dies in a freak accident during an argument. But this has a big impact on his personal life. He has yet to commit to a serious relationship despite an ongoing simmer between him and Ceri. He gets ever more dependent on Kate: she keeps him grounded, and the fact that she’s determined to establish her independence without his help breaks his heart. But surely his act of heroism on her behalf must have its consequences?

As well as playing Peter Marshall in ‘Caerdydd’, Ryland is probably best known for his role as Tudur Noel in ‘Fondue, Rhyw a Deinosors’, for which he won the BAFTA Cymru award for Best Actor in 2003. He has recently been shooting a Christmas film for S4C, alongside Dewi Pws Morris and Rhian Jones.

Ryland is also known as a singer/songwriter, performing in both Welsh and English. His Welsh language debut album ‘Heno’ (2005) was critically acclaimed, which he followed up with ‘Under The Blue’ (2007) in English. He has also released a Welsh language EP entitled ‘Lili’r Nos’. Ryland presents Radio Cymru’s ‘C2 yn y Ciwb’, an acoustic music show which has just completed its second series.

GREEN QUESTIONNAIRE

What is your most green habit?

I turn off the heating in the house at 7.00 pm and light a fire to warm the house after that.

Do you know what your carbon footprint is and do you care?

No – but I do have quite small feet!

How much do you re-cycle?

A fair bit – I bought a bin with three separate areas last year to make things easier.

How much do you re-use?

I try to make soup with the chicken on Monday after a Sunday lunch. I give old clothes to charity.
