Kate is the middle Marshall child, sandwiched between jail-bird Siôn and control freak Peter. She often feels trapped by her family – stuck in the big family home that Peter refuses to sell, and fending off Peter’s scepticism towards her aspiring pop star husband, Danny. Married with a new baby, she gave her unconditional support to Danny even when his dreams meant they were struggling for cash and she was left holding baby Ela as he gallivanted off to write his mediocre songs and compete in second-rate talent contests. Even so, she was happy and seemed sorted – but no such luck. Her compulsive liar husband had a bit of on the side (namely, his number one fan, Kylie) and a pile of debts in Kate’s name. Plenty of motive for murder… So when Danny dies in a freak accident at the building site, Peter decides to get rid of the body in a misguided attempt to protect his little sister. But Kate manages to fight her inner turmoil, and the urge to purge her conscience at the nearest police station. She decides that what she needs is a new start – but will Peter’s hold over her be too tight for her to succeed?
