Emyr is Peter’s best friend and they co-own a flat in Cardiff Bay. He’s kind, flamboyant and a known face on the Cardiff gay scene, that is until he meets Gareth. Gareth was a detective who came to Emyr’s record shop (Collectable Records, which he runs with his friend Damo) to investigate a protection racket. Romance blossoms between them, Emyr the party animal bringing Gareth out of his shell, and Gareth the serious policeman being a calming influence on Emyr. So when an operation to protect him from the racket goes wrong and Gareth is stabbed to death, Emyr is left heart-broken and lost. His paternal relationship with Peter’s son Pedr provides Emyr with an avenue for his nurturing side and he is again devastated when Siân, Pedr’s mother, decides that she wants him back. Emyr enjoys the high life and yet underneath it all what he really craves is a stable relationship and someone to love. Damo is a rock for Emyr during this time, and Emyr returns the favour by teaching him his wedding vows to Lleucu in Welsh. Everything goes swimmingly until Emyr disappears during the party with Baz, Damo’s brother-in-law, and with this one drunken act, destroys their relationship once and for all.
