Elen is beautiful, intelligent, articulate and fiery. She was the star pupil on Cardiff University’s Journalism, Film and Broadcasting degree course, although some accredited this to her extra-curricular activities with her lecturer, Mike Powell. When she won the hotly-contested Evan James prize this courted more controversy as Powell was one of the adjudicators. They thrive on their political debates and are equally fierce in defence of their ethics – something that is incredibly important to both of them. However, Elen is far younger than Powell, and has already committed adultery, which ultimately leads to the demise of their relashionship. This along with her cocaine use suggests that the world of glitz and glamour that surrounds her friends is luring her away from her principles.
